EV charging stations increase the appeal and the value of real estate, both in the commercial and in the residential segment.

It is now impossible to imagine our day-to-day lives without electric mobility. Ever since the Building Electromobility Infrastructure Act (GEIG) was passed in 2021, German businesses and building owners have been legally required to provide charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. As early as 1 January 2025, any non-residential building with more than twenty parking spots must have at least one charging point. Conversely, properties upgraded accordingly stand to benefit sustainably from an appreciation of the property site.

Best practice: B.central, Berlin

In conjunction with the decarbonisation and smart building strategy, 32 charging stations were installed for building occupants. A renowned car rental agency and another office tenant use the charging points for their electric car fleet. One of the specific challenges of this project was to take the different needs of the tenants into account in the electric load management. The car rental requires a higher charging capacity, whereas a lower charging intensity spread over the day suffices for the vehicles of the office tenants.
